Surah Kahf (The Cave)

Back in March, after we started really feeling the effects of COVID and Tech went online for the semester, I decided I was going to make a conscious effort to memorize the first 10 ayahs of Surah Kahf once the semester ended. The benefits of memorizing these ayahs are many, but the ones that stood out to me most were forming a relationship with the Quran and the fact that those ayahs provide protection from Dajjal.
Before spring break, I gave a MUGS talk about the importance of praying. Even though that seems like an obvious thing to do for most of us, I think everyone has struggled with consistent prayer during some point in their life. In my talk, I stressed the many benefits of praying (aside from the reward of completing a Fardh act). One of these benefits was that prayer allows the soul to connect with the Quran. I figured that I should implement in my own life what I taught to others and decided to consciously spend time memorizing the Arabic and understanding the translation of Surah Kahf’s first 10 ayahs.
I broke the ayahs up by week, so I decided that I would spend from one Friday to the next focusing on one ayah — though some of them are shorter so I was able to do multiple in a week. Ayah’s 1–3 of this beautiful Surah translate into telling the reader about the perfection of the Quran and are definitely ayahs to dwell upon to understand the importance of building a relationship with Allah (swt)’s words.
